Welcome

Welcome to Oh Just Scrap It where it is all about scrapbooking.   Whether you are into Traditional Scrapbooking, Digital Scrapbooking, the combination of the two Hybrid, or just now wanting to get into one of them or all of them.....Oh Just Scrap It!

Feel free to ask questions on anything and I will do my best to give you the best answer.

Here is a thought, don't delete even bad photos.  I took these pictures about 6 years ago and because the boys had so much fun I just couldn't delete them.  They are so blurry I didn't think I would ever use them but there was a scrapbook challenge for "Almost Deleted Photos" and I thought of these.  I think it turned out pretty cute.

Sometimes I want to scrap and will start on a page and then it happens....my brain freezes!  I will sit and stare and just can't think of where to go fro this point.  It may take me a while but eventually I finish it.  I am sure I am not the only one that has this issue so I thought I might start adding some Templates.

Here is the first and I will add more as I think about some.

I was just goofing around the other day and thought this would make a cute QuickPage.  Hope you like it.

You can pick it up in Free Stuff file.

The other day my husband and I were talking about some of the cool toys from when we were kids and we both loved the ViewMaster.  Well my mind thought it would be a cool way to scrap some pictures so had to try it.

I think it turned out cute so I made it for a Freebie.  Go pick it up if you want.

Here is my latest page that I made into a Quick Page.  If you would like it then just go to Free Stuff and pick it up.

I am an avid bike rider and thought maybe this should be my next kit.  I will see what all I can come up with and make it a Freebie.

Here is my latest kit.  There is enough to make 20 pages with a total of  120 pieces in all.  I have named it "Seeing Spots".

Traditional Scrapbooking

I have been Traditional Scrapbooking for three years and every time I start a new book I learn something new.

It can be a little over whelming when you walk in the craft store and look at all of the scrapbooking stuff. "Where do I start" just runs through your mind as you see the ailses of paper, stickers, bling elements, punches, ribbon, and the list goes on.

My suggestion is to start by sorting your photos.  Shoe boxes, plastic organizers, or accordion file holders are just a few ways to keep your photos and label them.  That will give you an idea of what you will want to pick up.  For instance, that summer trip camping.  I like to make an album with just one subject each like fishing trips, birthdays, etc.  You don't have to fill one album at a time as these are on going things. Mine are sorted by each child (now includes their spouse), grand child, my husband and I, and then family which are the mixed pictures.

As for paper suggestions it is good to have a package of solids for your backgrounds because it is easier to make mattes, then pick a ribbon for decoration and find elements with coordinating colors. The patterned paper is great for making mattes and using punches.  Among my first purchase was a package of glue sticks and those cute little scissors with designs.

Granted you can make this an expensive hobby or more manageable, it just depends on your budget and decorating taste.  I have a tendency to get "gaudy" but those are a little expensive and I have learned that a few well chosen punches can cut down on the cost.  Also you don't always have to buy scrapbooking stuff in the scrapbooking department.  I have picked up things from the hardware department, sewing department and such.  It is all up to you and what you want to use.

Here are a few tips on LAYOUTS-this is how you design your page:

1.  You can mirror two opposing pages.

This is a simple way to start getting the hang of what and where.  Generally if you get a package of solid colors and then a coordinating pattern paper you will be able to make one album which consists of 10 double sided (20 in all) pages.

2. Use the same theme on opposing pages.

This is a good way to show that 5x7 or 8x10 and the other poses that go along with the photo shoot.

3. Have you ever wondered what to do with all of those school photos?  Here is a thought for those school days and you can use a bunch of the same ones with a class picture or show a progression.

Just kind of lay things where you think they look good but never glue anything until you are sure that is the way you want it.  There have been so many times that I have had it laid out and when I start gluing, ended up moving things here and there.

Digital Scrapbooking

I have been Digital Scrapbooking for a little over seven years and it is a blast.  My first experience with digital scrapbooking came after our house fire.  All of our pictures were on cd's and I didn't want to just print them and stick them in an album.

My cousin suggested that I print them and traditional scrap them and at that time my patientce was toast and so was my focus.

As a hobby I once repaired photos and thought "if I can repair a photo and minipulate it then surely there is something out there".  I found digital scrapbooking and Paint Shop Pro and my life has never been the same.  I love making "stuff" as I call it and do not consider myself a "Designer".

There are a lot of programs out there for digital scrapbooking and lots of sites to find stuff.  Finding the right program for you will be the biggest task.  I suggest you try the ones that offer Trial Programs until you find the one you are comfortable using.  ScrapbookMax seems to be one that I have encounter most.  I have downloaded it to my computer so when I am asked a question I know somewhat what I am giving an answer to.  I will be giving tips on that product but by no means does that mean "you need to get it".  I am familar with others as well.

To get started I have the same suggestions as traditional scrapbooking which is organize your photos.  The best way to do this is to find your "Picture" folder on your computer and in that folder make "New Folders" and label them.  You can go back to your main folder and move the pictures to the newly created folders.  If you need some help with this please feel free to ask any questions and I will get back to you.

Free Digital Scrapbooking "Stuff"

I am going to be going through some of my older stuff and will be posting it here for FREE.  As I make more digital pages and like the elements and such I will also be posting them here as HODGEPODGE.  I hope you will pick them up and please respect that I put a lot of work into what I make and please share the link to my site and the link to the downloads.  The only way I can keep this working is knowing that there are those out there that appreciate what I am trying to do.  Thank You

I am going through my files of misc stuff that I have made and really didn't want to just delete them so here they are.  I will be going through more and will have a monthly grab bag file.  Hope you find something you like in them.
